:As I started playing duplicate bridge, my mentors kept asking me, “How Come You Don’t Know That?” My most common answer: “Nobody ever told me. Where can I find more information?” It was rare that anyone could direct me to a source. They just told me that “everybody knows it.” Maybe everybody else knew this stuff, but I certainly didn’t. The information is scattered here and there. Yet when I talked to players with the rank of silver life master or higher, all agreed on the following principles. So when I started teaching, I wrote a booklet, “How Come I Don’t Know That?”

When is a 2-level bid NOT a preempt?
Why do you promise a stopper in opponent's suit when you overcall 1 NT?
